007 Book: James Bond, The Spy Who Love Me (1977)

Bond book: James Bond, The Spy Who Loved Me
Publication year: 1977

When Ian Fleming sold the film rights to the James Bond novels to Harry Saltzman and Albert R. Broccoli, he only gave permission for the title The Spy Who Loved Me to be used. Since the screenplay for the film had nothing to do with Fleming's original novel, Eon Productions, for the first time, authorised that a novelization be written based upon the script.

MI6 agent James Bond 007 must team up with Soviet Agent XXX, Anya Amasova, in order to investigate Sigmund Stromberg, the owner of an ocean liner company. They uncover the villain's dastardly plot to use hijacked submarines from the US and USSR to provoke a war between the two countries and then rebuild civilization under the sea.

The classic Martini is one of the drinks that every bartender should know. There are many ways to make a Martini: gin or vodka, little or no vermouth, stirred or shaken, and an olive or lemon twist garnish. One drink, so many options.

Ingredients for this one:

  • 3 measures of Gordon´s Gin
  • 1 measure of Russian Vodka
  • 1 slice of lemon
Shaken not stirred!

" 'Yes sir'
'I'd like another dry martini, please.'
The girl pursed her lips and tried to remember the lesson he had taught her. 'Er - that's three measures of gin -'
'Gordon's.'
'- one measure of vodka-'
'Polish or, preferably Russian.'
'- shaken until it's ice cold and then topped with a large, thin slice of lemon peel.' The girl finished triumphantly.
Bond did not care for the word 'topped' but he nodded agreeably."

007 Food: Scrambled eggs with tomato juice

Food: Scrambled eggs with tomato juice

Experience of 007 Travelers: Self-made

Scrambled eggs is a dish made from whites and yolks of eggs (usually chicken eggs).
Eggs are cracked into a bowl, a little water and/or milk is added, and the mixture is whisked until it reaches a uniform colour. Then the mixture is poured into a saucepan over a low heat and continually whisked until there are soft curds that are slightly liquid. These are scrambled eggs.

"Bond took a taxi from the airport and checked in at the Nile Hilton on the island of Roda, stuck like a lozenge in the throat of the Nile. His suite was air-conditioned and functional, and a welcome escape from the hot sun that burned down outside. He took a cold shower, changed into a blue towelling dressing-gown and called room service for a long glass of tomato juice and a plate of scrambled eggs."

Christopher Wood:  "James Bond, The Spy Who Loved Me"

Scrambled eggs is one of Bond's favorite foods in the books: He eats scrambled eggs at least in the following books: "Live and Let Die", "Doctor No", "Thunderball", "On Her Majesty's Secret Service", "Octopussy", "007 in New York", "James Bond, the Authorized Biography of 007", "Icebreaker", "Nobody Lives Forever", The Man From Barbarossa"  and "Zero Minus Ten".
