When Ian Fleming sold the film rights to the James Bond novels to Harry Saltzman and Albert R. Broccoli, he only gave permission for the title The Spy Who Loved Me to be used. Since the screenplay for the film had nothing to do with Fleming's original novel, Eon Productions, for the first time, authorised that a novelization be written based upon the script.
MI6 agent James Bond 007 must team up with Soviet Agent XXX, Anya Amasova, in order to investigate Sigmund Stromberg, the owner of an ocean liner company. They uncover the villain's dastardly plot to use hijacked submarines from the US and USSR to provoke a war between the two countries and then rebuild civilization under the sea.
